BASSHacks 2026 is the University of Melbourne Business Analytics Students Society’s flagship hackathon, bringing together students from business, technology, design, and analytics to solve real-world problems using data and AI.
Over the course of the competition, participants will work in teams to design innovative solutions that transform data into actionable insights. Whether you are interested in finance, AI, marketing, social impact, automation, or smart cities, this hackathon is an opportunity to build something meaningful, practical, and impactful.
No matter your experience level, BASSHacks is designed to be beginner-friendly while still challenging advanced participants. We encourage creativity, experimentation, and collaboration across disciplines.
Participants will have access to workshops, mentors, networking opportunities, and industry judges throughout the event.

Requirements
Participants are required to build a project that uses data, analytics, AI, or automation to solve a real-world problem.
Projects may include:

- Market intelligence platforms
- Smart city or social impact solutions

Projects can be built using any programming language, framework, or platform.
What to SubmitEach team must submit:
- A project title and short description
- A 3–5 minute demo video
- A presentation pitch deck (optional but recommended)
- A GitHub repository or working prototype link
- Instructions on how to run the project
- A summary of the problem, solution, and technologies used
Submissions must be completed before the official deadline to be eligible for judging.

Judging Criteria

Innovation & Creativity
Projects should demonstrate original thinking, creative problem-solving, and innovative use of analytics, AI, or technology. Judges will evaluate how unique and impactful the idea is compared to existing solutions. -
Technical Implementation
Projects will be assessed on the quality of the technical build, including functionality, complexity, reliability, and effective use of tools, data, APIs, or AI technologies. -
Business Impact & Practicality
Judges will evaluate how well the solution solves a real-world problem and its potential impact, usefulness, and scalability. -
Pitch & Presentation
Teams should clearly communicate their idea, demonstrate their solution effectively, and explain the value of their project.
